I just have to tell you guys. I have so much fun with a metronome. I know there are guys that don't think they are cool, but I love working with a metronome. It helps me so much to learn about time!
I just put it on 2 and 4 and play. I can feel my time waver a bit and I can see it's tendencies. I learn so much. Man, try learning a bebop head and then putting the metronome on 2 and 4. See where the accents are, the off beat phrases, etc. Try it out and let me know what you think!
I dig it!

1th I tried without. but now I have to admit, I need it, and get 200 times more satisfaction, because my tempo and rhytm are so much better.

I started working with Tony's 2 and 4 metronome practice last year. It is an excellent way to sharpen your time feel. And as Tony suggested, do this with syncopated heads, like bebop tunes. Oleo is a good example.
Try it!
oh man, i'm glad you dig

I always thought the metronome was very useful but very boring... until the day I heard Tony do a session with musicians of his level... with metronome. And man that metronome was swinging!!! Haha! It totally changed my view on it and was very humbling: if he does it, then no one should be exept!! ;-)
Here is a lesson Tony did about it: www.vibesworkshop.com/node/1729/
Now I had another recent great experience with it: I was and am still working on the tune "Centerpiece". Tony did a whole lesson about it... with metronome on all the way through. I totally dig practicing on that lesson: www.vibesworkshop.com/node/5950/
:o)
Some people don't think it is

Some people don't think it is useful. But I think the metronome, making play along tracks, the ireal book, band in a box.... All these things can be very helpful and most importantly, fun
