Has anybody who used the originals had the opportunity to try try the Malltech version out. no one around where I live even stocks them. I used to use Albright Mallets up until fred Albright's niece ( i think or maybe daughter stopped taking orders.) Those mallets had a great tone and lasted a long time. I think I used the mediums I see that they make a Hard model as well can anybody give any review on those. thanks

They aren’t exactly the same, but in many ways, they are better. They are a bit more durable and the sound is a tad clearer and brighter on modern axes. I do still like the old ones on my older instruments, so I reserve them for recording sessions.

The handle length may be something you can custom order, although I wouldn’t prefer a longer handle on a mallet that heavy. If my memory serves me, even the originals were produced with longer shafts, but the guys at Century used to cut them down and put the end caps on before they shipped them.

thank you guys for taking the time to answer my questions. I just ordered the medium model and am looking forward to getting them on tuesday. thank to Randy_Sutin for the original vs Malletech comparison and Oliver for your review. Based on your posts, I don't think I'll be disappointed like have been by other "Milt Jackson" models.

Yes, the originals sound a bit better on the low end. Also, the new ones are brighter in general. I guess the best way I can describe it is that the originals are "smoother".
