I'm very appreciative to mon amie Marie-Noelle on her kind words about the tunes on my MySpace page with the H-Factor, a local Philly jazz group. She pointed out to me that since previously, my page was set to private, that nobody was able…
I think it's all of you guys, you're having an affect on me. For a while I wasn't doing a lot of listening. I don't mean transcribing or figuring stuff out, I mean listening just to listen.
I've noticed over the last few weeks that it's…
I frequently put on tracks in itunes and practice comping. I come across sometimes, tracks with no chord player. I always forget what they are. But when I find them I have fun being the chord player and get a lot out of it.
So I thought I…
This is where all the learning should take place. In other words:
You hit the site, log in, check the front page and then check Recent Activity. All these sections are in flux, they'll change all the time. They are NOT the places to go…

Larrys' going to try his class again this Wednesday night.
Larry is not a vibe player, he's a sax player and an incredible musician. Vibe players can…
This is a cut from my new quartet's last performance. In a band dedicated to exploring Irish music through jazz, this is kind of a stretch, but it's fun, and I was happy enough with how it went down to post it. Hope you enjoy.
I can think of parts of tunes that are lydian. The opening chord of Blue in Green. Sometimes guys play Gmin, but most of the time it's Bb maj and a sharp 4. In fact the melody is an E.
Can you think of more?
Back in the day! Piper, Ed Saindon and I would hang online and play a lot. Here's my version of Dolphin Dance. I've posted there's as well as well as the podcast. It should be all linked on this page somewhere!

I was sitting, waiting. And then came the wizard, followed by five young cats, who could have all been…
I just heard an arrangement of Arabesque 1 by Debussy, for vibes, performed by Jessica Ryckewaert, on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0xosUMpJgY
I play it on piano and thought I should try it out on vibes. I dug out the piano…
If you post here on the site, you'll see some reorganization starting. The first thing you'll see is in the boxes where you post. We're rearranging the 'Type' categories. Everything is still there, just being moved around.
Over the next 2…
Mario is the ulitmate electronic percussion geek! He even owns a company that makes electronic percussion instruments! The mallet kat is way cool and Mario not only builds them but he can play them as well. Check him out in this episode of…
After listening to John's ear exercices, I'm just curious about one thing: so far I thought that all Anglo-saxon people were always naming the notes with letters, and that only a few European countries like France were using the D'Arezzo…
Cool to see some transcriptions of Bobby going up around here. About 10 years ago (!!!) I transcribed a LOT of solos, and I think I probably did more Hutch than any other vibes player... there's just so much IN there.
There are less…
Man, we saw 4 people online! John Piper Told me there was a lot of you online. Damn, what happened? I thought wow, no one has questions. Oh man. Piper said there were lots of questions. I ended early because it seemed like no one was there…
