Any big band directors out there? We want to play with your band!
Aloha, This February I had the opportunity to play in Honolulu, HI. While i was there i was exposed to the great vibist Arthur Lyman. We also were very fortunate to meet and talk to his drummer Harold Chang, whom was his drummer for 30 years. " Yellowbird" is one of the songs that Arthur would play solo and with his Quartet ... very fun tune to play and the Second Chord is distinctively Hawaiian..
While we were there I worked with an amazing middle school percussion ensemble from " Nui Valley Middle School" directed by Zachary Morita .. this kids blew me away ...
I taught Dennis a little bit. He's an amazing musician. Perfect pitch, total recall. He's really got the whole package. I taught while he was at Curtis Institute of Music.
Listen to him play. Top notch.
These are students of Isreal. A member of the site. They were so great!!!
Hey guys, I just recorded this at home. I was inspired by David's brilliant version that he recorded on the Omega by Malletech. I thought it sounded gorgeous. I'm playing it here in Bb. I like how the melody plays out in that key. I wrote out a lead sheet with some possible harmonic variations that I was experimenting with in this version. The lead sheet can be viewed and downloaded from googledocs. The link is on the YT clip's description. Also, please check out the classic versions from Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett if you haven't already done so. Ed
