Walt Dickerson's daughter, Liz, is a friend of mine. When we first met, we were talking about him and I wrongly assumed that the tune Elizabeth was written for her; it was not... he wrote it for his wife (Liz's mother). Liz also told me that day that her favorite recording of all the ones her dad did was not Elizabeth, but rather one called Bacon and Eggs.
I'm about to upload a solo vibraphone version of Tones for Joan's Bones in preparation for Tony's online concert Friday on Facebook, but here's one with my quartet from a bit ago. The vibraphone solo is at 3:10 (because after all this is a vibraphone website). I like playing without other chordal instruments, but there's definitely something very freeing about having a pianist.
Hit the wrong note at the end, oops.
Fats Waller's "Jitterbug Waltz" from last night's gig at Li's with Mark and I. Always a fun night playing duo with Mark and hanging with family and friends. Going on 10 years with this gig and it never gets old.
"All Of Me" - a slightly demented version of this classic from last night's gig with Mark and I. Ha!Ha!
"Windows" by pianist Chick Corea. A classic composed by Chick which he recorded quite a few times through the years. Some of the students and I have been working on it during the past week and were discussing ways to maneuver through the changes as well as how to approach it solo vibes style.
