ok, im thinking as i listen the digital jazz station that we get thru cable Tv. so many different recordings and omg the history .. so i got to thinkng.. I wonder what bobby hutcherson is listening to? what is tony listening too .. and on and on .. so here is the question..

What is everyone listening to right this moment in time that your reading this blog?

tal is amazing .. the red norvo quartets are my favorite..if i remember right mingus was on bass.

Joe Locke talkes to Nico about an exciting new development at the Vanderplas Baileo factory. They are designing an all new midi system for the Mvibe as well as for acoustic vibraphones!

I was playing a I vi ii V I progression and starting playing a familar melody. There are two melodies in the enclosed mp3. Are they the same or different tunes? What are they?

So I was thinking of making some sort of chord etude and I thought, why don't I just comp through a tune. Then if you're working on comping you could learn this etude and analyze it.

So I took the changes to 'I Loves You Porgy' and comped simply through it. I played mostly quarter notes to keep things moving.

I'm curious is this is helpful to any of you.

Tonight, our local jazz station played Henry Mancini's Love Theme From "Romeo And Juliet" (A Time For Us). I thought I would give it a try on vibes. It's in Gm, so I got to work in a different key.

Suggestions are appreciated.

My practice time is inversely proportional to the number of posts per day on this site. So keep it down ;-). I had a nice practice tonight. Some scales, some tunes.

One thing led to another and I started playing Norwegian Wood in 6ths. I think I might add this one to my office's Christmas party cocktail hour gig. Enclosed is an arrangement I came up with. I later heard the original and found I played it in the wrong key (C vs. original E). I think I might keep it in C since it lays nicely.

Work hard on the modes. They are the foundation of the line!!
