Friedman etude no.7
"Crystal Silence" composed by Chick Corea. A classic from Chick and Gary Burton from their great ECM album recorded in 1972. The recording has stood the test of time and still sounds fresh today. I hadn't played this in quite awhile. It was one of the first songs that I learned in lessons with Gary starting in '73.
A little late night session working on the sabbatical project. This a minor blues on John Coltrane’s “Mr. PC”. Solo vibe techniques include left hand comping mixed with one/two hand lines and right hand octaves. Improv techniques include Pentatonics, Upper Structure Triads, Motivic Playing and Side Slipping. All concepts from my improv series The Complete Guide to Improvisation available from Amazon. Apologies for the dark lighting.
This version is, I hope a little more present.
Here's a short video of me playing the 11th dampening etude from David Friedman's book.
Feedback welcome.
"Bridge Over Troubled Water" - a classic song from Simon and Garfunkel that I've been working on the past few days. I worked with it for some reharm possibilities and applying voicings from my book Voicing Concepts for the Jazz Vibist (available from Amazon). The version from Art singing this at the Central Park concert is a must see. If anyone is interested they can message me for the lead sheet that includes the reharm.
