Falling Grace - with chord scale sheet from Gary

“Falling Grace” by Steve Swallow. One of the great many compositions written by Steve. This one is like a Berklee standard and is a great song to explore with. I worked on this with Gary way back and 45 years later it’s still fun to play and see where the music takes you. I was looking through my files from when I was studying with Gary. He was a great teacher. Very open, organized and systematic. I uploaded the lead sheet he gave me with the chord scales listed. On the back of the lead sheet he wrote his system of chord scales as applied to improvisation. I uploaded those to google docs.

Crystal Silence - C.Corea (Piano + Vibes)

here´s the famous crystal silence in our version. not really completley happy with the recording but i take it as work in progress...

it´s the only less stressfull to play number in our corea burton program since it´s a ballad but to play it nice and get a tasteful solo on it is as difficult as the fast speed stuff.

Piano: Martin Legemann
Vibes: Tarik Dosdogru

Chick Corea's "Armando's Rhumba" on the marimba

A little Monday morning warmup on the marimba at Berklee with Chick Corea’s classic composition “Armando’s Rhumba”. I liked Patrice's post regarding the marimba. I love playing the marimba and have learned a lot from marimbists. I've taught a lot of marimbists from the Boston Conservatory who were Nancy Zeltsman's students. Students have included Pius Cheung, Eriko Daimo and Hidemi Murase who were really inspiring. Things like touch, fluidity, use of four mallets, orchestration, interesting pieces, etc, can give us some interesting things to think about and apply to the vibes.
