(We've been talking about Theo Milkov on the site. Here is his teacher performing. - tony miceli)
Bars, resonators and their tuning.
Base of the vibes' sound ofcourse are the bars, and in a huge amount the (tuning of) the resonators.
I'll try to explain in the next article how to tune the bars, how to tune the resonators, and how to get the best benefit from the resonators.
Bars.
It is widely know that vibe bars have their fundamental tuned, and the first overtone to a double octave.
Pretty cool original composition by the vibist from Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble.
This tune (Birk's Works by Dizzy Gillespie) was posted on YouTube in June but originally video taped last year 2007.

Check out Patty playing the Friedman etude No. 13. What's great is since her right hand is injured, she's using just her left. During her injury that lasted 6 weeks she practiced like a maniac with just her left hand. I BET HER LEFT HAND is pretty happening now! huh?

Here is a talk Joe and I had when he was visiting Nico's factory in Holland.
We talk about studying with Tony and what is so great about his way of teaching and studying online at vibesworkshop.com
Tony recently pointed out a great article about the vibraphone on NPR. That’s something we are all concerned about: to get more people to know about this too uncommon instrument.
For this new post, Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce you London based vibraphonist Roger Beaujolais! Here is a video he recorded for the internet music channel "MusFlashTV". What I like in this sample, is the approach of the instrument: at a time basic, complete and concrete.
Here's a video of Dutch vibist Frits Landesbergen with Trio Rosenberg. Performing a great "Django" like tune!
NB: go to 1"20 to switch the dutch intro speach if you feel like! :o)
Smoking vibes solos and vibes/guitar discussions!
Enjoy!
