I was listening to this today in fact - I love it. This is the kind of thing where you can really hear what Mike M can do, especially on the standards. It's a 2-CD set, and it's all killer. He's playing on a 3.5-octave vibe too. Everybody should check this out--
Didn't know this Tony.. he sounds amazing. But just shows you, it's about what's in your head & your heart. What struck me about this session is how clear & strong the ideas are, everyone's great tone, and the listening that's going on...
wonderful,no beautiful album from the already getting old ,master vibeplayer ,mike mainieri ,he is from 1938 ,as google tells us,hoping he will get older still and stay allright to give us more of his wonderful music
Well just one thing - he plays the 3.5 octave vibe, and sometimes on this recording you can really hear the weird overtones on the low end. I'm not a fan of that sound. But the playing is great, and the CD is very well recorded.
This is such a great recording. Mike sounds so good and I had no idea his hand was messed up. Sure doesn't sound like it...he plays great on every tune. A really cool combination with Charlie Mariano.
This was the first album with a vibes player that I really got into. The intimacy of that format is killer and Mainieri's tone and harmonic concept is divine.
ive been dig 'n this cd for about a year know. this record is the real deal . masters of jazz and of there instrument. Talk about listening .. this is it .. on a very high level .. pure emotion
