I'm new too, started at the August Vibeworkshop at the University of Delaware. I also have a MalletKat and really like it, and It's plugged into both an amplifier and my computer, fairly simple. The mallets though take a while to get used to? Your in the right place f you want to play vibes.

First, I am not a MalletKat owner, but I work a lot with technology so I may be able to add some advice. Also just view this as one guy's opinion, in the end you need to do what works best for you.

You have to divide and concur:

1)Learn the Instrument.
There must be some kind of "Master Reset", maybe Tony or someone on here can step you through that. So then you will be able to get everything back to normal if you change a setting and goof something up. You can't be afraid to change things, and you need a way to get back to square one you have to experiement.

2)Find some early success.
If you like Jazz, find a Hal Leonard beginner jazz play along book. Do a search for book "Volume 1A" (www.halleonard.com) Find a tune recognize and work on that, if you cant find a tune you recognize, find a simple tune you like, All Blues, Satin Doll are good ones. For a first time player the Leonard books are good because they have a melody track as well as tracks without the melody. Aebersold books are great too, however, few, if any have melody tracks, they only have backing tracks.

3)Understand that takes all of us YEARS not days, or weeks, or even months to master the vibe. Tony has been playing a LOT for over 35 years, he plays, he teaches, he patiently answers questions from guys like me that he has answered 1000 times before. (just a guess Tony, sorry if I am off about years). And I know for a fact that he still is working on things and is practicing.

4)Just relax
learning new stuff is hard, but the right attitude hoes a long way. Hey you got a vibe sound out of your malletkat, you posted here. Both things to be proud of.

well if you come to philly we can hang for an hour or so. i could show you some stuff.

also check out tyler blanton, he lives in new york and he knows how to use it. maybe he'd give you a lesson.

have you seen the malletkat instructional video.

before you and if you take me up on my free offer, just make sure you read a bit of the manual and really try to get it. my time is at a premium, but i also know you paid a lot for the instrument and if i can help you do something then cool.

hmmmm, we could try thirty minutes on skype.

as a matter of fact, my buddy is a guru on the malletkat. in fact he's mario's sub at radio city music hall. and he will soon be in manhattan for 2 weeks.

so you have a lot of options here.
