I'm in totally as for the technology, the programation, the time spent to build the instrument and get to that result. Still the music is truly not a pleasure for my ears! How do they get to that sound? Why couldn't they use softer "mallet heads"?! :o)
Interesting though... Thanks for posting drslg!

I liked the mathematical certainty of the pulse--that felt good. I actually didn't mind the tone quality--something about it fit the mechanical experience.
I felt very sad seeing what was likely an old Leedy or Deagan 145 being hacked like that, though. Very sad. This should have been done to something of lesser quality and historical value. This instrument is clearly from the first generation of vibes, between 1927 and late 30s. It hurts to see a piece of history treated like this. These foolish young men don't understand what they have in their hands--or else don't appreciate it.
Don't these guys have girlfriends, or maybe a movie theatre in the immediate area? Did their mother
take away their Nintendo? Maybe they could program a one octave set of tunable Big Macs to play Kenny G's latest hit!
David, Geek is the new Chic. Once they wheel this automated puppy out on the street, the hotties will be climbing all over them. I mean, nothing--NOTHING--is sexier than Flight of the Bumblebee at machine gun tempo on the zilofone. Well, maybe Donald Trump's hair is sexier. Or his wallet. OK, perhaps they are third place to scented candles. Whatever. Nevertheless, I predict big things. BIG things. Time to take up the guitar, because the same men who put steel-drivin' John Henry in his grave have just automated your job.

it doesn't sound very good, but i think it can be fixed. It was really just the thought that they were trying to show.
