Playing Bebop Heads

Playing bebop heads at ANY tempo is really great for your hands. I am getting so much out of playing through all these tunes every day. Making lessons and videoing and just playing the heads and chords is an amazing thing to do for my playing and I assume will be for yours as well.

I hope you guys really put time into all this!

Corcovado - Antonio Carlos Jobim - Solo Vibraphone

I hadn't played this song in quite a long time but I was working on it last week with Lucas, a wonderful vibist from Brazil studying with Gustavo and I at Berklee. We were discussing various solo vibraphone techniques and ways of approaching it as a solo vibe performance. I just ran through it this morning to see what would happen. There are some loose spots where I almost go over the edge but I guess that's what keeps it interesting. I can blame it on the coffee. Ha!Ha! I think I love every composition that Jobim ever wrote.

7WOB - Here Comes 7 Weeks of Bebop - with a certificate

We will do 7 weeks of bebop tunes with assignments. If anyone completes all the assignments they will get a vibes workshop certificate of completion.

July 11 Fried Bananas
July 18 Donna Lee
July 25 Scrapple
August 1 Crazeology
August 8 Groovin' High
August 15 Tricotism
August 22 Au Privave

The sheet music for the 7 weeks is attached to this post.

Ok do you want to really learn and work on stuff during the summer?

Gravity - Solo Vibraphone

Hey guys, this is just a scratch recording I made today. I recently got some very basic recording equipment and Logic, and I have discovered:

1. I know nothing about recording.
2. I know nothing about recording the vibraphone.

BUT, that hasn't stopped me from doing some experimenting, and here's the first product! This is a John Mayer tune, sort of R&B/Blues rather than Jazz, but I decided to spice it up with a few extra chords.
