Check out Vince Lardear. He came over tonight and did a whole video series on the bebop 7 scale. It was really great! I'll put it up soon!!!
I'll give a set of my mallets to the first person who transcribes the solo here and posts it! That is the first to post it *here* in the comments.
Hey guys! I just thought I would post this thing I recorded with a group that I play with every week at Wally's. We all transcribe an album a week and play them on Saturday and then we host the jam session afterward.

The first 45 seconds are from the show before us, so don't be surprised when you hear some crazy music at the beginning.
For those of you that don't know me, I'm the guy with the tie.

This lesson includes some tips on ballad accompaniment, using Polka Dots and Moonbeams as a sample tune. Pdf examples attached.
Vince Lardere, a great local alto player came to University of the Arts and did a workshop on the bebop scale that the students LOVED. So I asked Vince to come over so I can video the workshop. This was great stuff. So maybe we should start a little series on 'Lines and Licks'.
Hi everybody.
How to play the vibes in a rock project?
A few time ago, I was vibist in a rock band called Amédée colère. it is sung in french.
We have experimented a lot of combination for my sound :comping, chord or not, riff ,jazz or not.
I use a Premier vibraphone with a K&K amplification system and some effects (Korg kaoss pad)
we use the vibes like a 2nd guitar (it goes in a guitar amp...)
If somebody have recorded some rock things, it would be interesting to post it. And to show all the way we can integrate the sound of the vibes in a heavy band.
Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to post this on here but I've decided to sell my MalletKAT. I listed it on Ebay this morning so I pasted the link below. It's about 2 years old and is in perfect condition. Please contact me if anyone is interested or has any questions.
Thanks a lot for looking!
Andrew

Thanks John. This is AMAZING. Licks and phrases are language and great musicians speak the language. IMHO
I miss this gig. An easy brunch gig where you could just stretch out and play and try stuff!
I am an amateur vibist--have played 40 years in big bands and quartets and by myself.
I go through lapses of practicing, followed by 'getting back into it.'
I am curious, how do other vibists' daily (3+ times a week?) practice routines look?
For awhile I did the following
- start with major scales in all keys
- diminished scales in all 'keys'
- block chords up and down the vibes (maj7, m7, dim)
- a page or two in Patterns for Jazz
- a couple classical transcriptions (from those three nice transcription books that came out 40 years ago)
- 2-3 Real Book tunes
