Marco Bianchi - Fun with vibes, friends and more!

I just had a great chat with Marco Bianchi, an Italian vibist who is member here, even if seldom online.

He told me he was preparing a new album with music in the Zappa style. He's also working on a TV show with 2 friends. They make little sketches... and sometime record humorisitic tunes. I made a little search and here is the tune I felt like sharing with you. Marco plays mallets, drum and keyboard.

Maybe this song will be a bit long for some of you. So I selected a few "spots":

- 0'00: great vibes part, funny images!
- 2'39: just watch, it's "fresh"! ;-)
- 5'23: I love it!

Yet another Randy rant

The Jason Marsalis posting touched on this and brought me back to thinking about it; I have been working on this addition to the Theory section of my website for a few months, trying to get my head around it... typically for me, it's too long and not completely clear yet. But, I thought I would put it out here for comment to see if I can clean it up a bit..

The prior part it refers to is both posted here on VW in its original form and in its new, improved form (Thanks to all who commented) on my site. http://www.randysutin.com/subpage.html

Aesthetics geeks enjoy!!

Here's Why I'm Posting This

When I stumbled upon this video today, I personally was drawn into it. I imagine it will have mixed reactions here on the site. I guess the guy is in a Mozart type of vibe. Ok, cool.

Listen to this in regards to comping and playing changes on the vibes. I say that because that's what happened to me while I was listening to it. There are sections where I think the voice leading is so smooth and the question and answer lines are really beautiful.

I found a study in listening to this, and besides the guy writes a nice melody even if it's too this or that.

Forum Topic: More on amplification & getting a natural sound

Hi all,

I wanted to start a new thread here, since I wasn't sure how long I'd go on with this.... I had more thoughts about the amplification issues that were again raised, and especially Ted's post about the Deagan instrument with mics inside each resonator. I had an idea about doing that when I was younger, and I never knew there was a production instrument made with such as system.

So annoying!

So I've discovered, Gary Burton and Joe Locke are both performing on the same night, in London! What kind of bad planning was that?! And to make it infinitely worse, my college have their concert on that night!! Urgh, so irritating! Wish I could go and see both those guys!
