Forum Topic: Small diaphragm vs. large for condenser mics

Trying to decide which provides the most "natural" sound for recording vibes; Small diaphragm vs. large for condenser mics. I've attached two WAV files here in which I recorded myself with each of the two types (not actual tunes, just me improvising some lines and chords to try to capture the range and timbre of the instrument). File C-2 Mic test is a pair of Behringer C-2 pencil condenser mics. File CM2400 Mic test is a pair of Stellar Labs CM2400 large diaphragm condenser mics set for cardoid pickup pattern (I think Stellar Labs was a house brand of MCM Electronics).

Forum Topic: Dig this new travel vibe with custom pickups :-)

Hey friends,

Finally sharing these two videos that I had promised to post... One is about the new Yamaha YV3030MS vibe that I recently started using for gigs, the other details how I built a custom pickup system for this instrument. Hope some of you will find it interesting & helpful!

Forum Topic: Omega Vibe has arrived...

Newer member to the site...I wanted to share that my long-awaited Omega Vibe has arrived! Two days in and it is a beautiful instrument, wow. Coming from a vintage 60's Jenco, this is a night and day difference, that will take some serious adjusting to, but for the better. Especially the damper pedal, and the fact that the instrument is about 8 inches longer than my Jenco.

Forum Topic: Shipping the Vibraphone in the U.S.

Can someone offer any advice on packing a vibraphone for shipping within the U.S.

I am selling a Musser M-75 vibraphone and live in Florida. I have had a couple of inquiries from out-of-state - and out-of-driving distance. I have never attempted to package up a vibraphone for shipping myself. I did buy an Omega vibraphone once and it was shipped to me in a box which was, of course, designed to hold that instrument.

Forum Topic: 440 vs 442

I ordered 442 tuning for my vibes when I bought my OneVibe from MarimbaOne last year. I understood that 442 was the American standard because vibes and marimba are categorized as orchestral instruments. But what about JAZZ tuning with horns and piano? And would the bass player have to decide to go one way or the other if they had both tunings happening in the same ensemble? Yikes!
It seems like people with perfect pitch would grate at the mismatched tunings. Is it a big issue? What tunings do you guys have?
