I got this idea from Ed Saindon, but I use the term a little differently now. "Dampening effects," to me, are different sounds you can produce while dampening. This includes deadstrokes, half-dampening, and dampening speed.

Here's a lesson on Israel. I know I've put up lessons in the past. Well I didn't think of until I started doing the lessons.
Maybe I cover some of the same stuff. However....
In this version I'm attaching a pdf of my arrangement of the head as well as some simple etudes based on the first few bars of the tune!
Keep in mind, since making these videos, I now play the Dmaj 7 in the 7th bar. I got schooled by David Friedman for doing it the Bill Evans way and now I love the Dmaj7 and know the history of the tune!

Over the first two weeks of this series, we've focused on building a harmonic foundation:
• Learning the form
• Internalizing common voicings
• Hearing the movement of the harmony
• Developing familiarity with rhythm changes
The rhythm was intentionally simple so all of our attention could be placed on the chords.
This week, that changes.
👉 We're introducing comping rhythms.
Many of the voicings in this lesson will already be familiar from Weeks 1 and 2. That's by design.
