Considering that this is from 1970, I think he is using the mics. The pickup sound would probably be too distorted at that time, plus he is using harder mallets like the Deagan Terry Gibbs cord-wound mallets. As far as resonators, I'd guess that there is no use for them since he isn't using the tremolo and the sound difference would be lost anyway in a live setting like that. So losing tha resonators allows for less baggage to carry.
RANDY??????? to me..... there's no way those mics are getting that sound with band with the amps. how can that be. I know the sound with resonators off and it sucks. So that's impossible. There's something else going on there. I don't pick ups, there is something picking up that sound. can i be wrong?
Look at mark 0.15 , 0.26 , 5.25 and 5.34 you will see what appears to be a long white unit - I believe this is the pickup bar. In 5,25 and 5.34 , you can see that this pickup bar is mounted where the resonators would normally go (i.e in center of bar). The sandwich board appears to be the amplifier for this setup. I believe this is a variant of the jess oliver pickup system (magnetic)

Here is a demo of the Musser version (scroll to the last thumbnail); placed at the end of the bars instead of center. Sounds very muted, so maybe the mics are also used by Dave Pike?
