The link will be on the front page of the site, Saturday!
Come check out the vibe hang at the University of Delaware, Saturday Nov. 5, 2011 from 2pm to 4pm!
Again beautiful melody... and tough nuances to make... My rit is a bit early.
The first thing I notice in this video is the left hand playing right in the range of the bass player. Teddy Wilson came from the Benny Goodman Quartet where for a time there was no bass player. So it was Teddy Wilson's left hand.
Also I think it's still really based and linked to the stride feel. Of course it's going to break away from that, because bass players are entering the scene and there's no need to 2 players to hang out in that bass range. But you still get that feel don't you?
Why don't we all answer these. Here are my answers
Where's the dividing line between playing a melodically interesting accompaniment and overpowering the soloist?
Beautifully written! Pleasant to read and discover... hard to play with nuances... Still a lot to improve from this version... Thank you David!! :o)
Hello everyone. This is my first lesson on Chords & Harmony festival 2011. This lesson has to do with the major and minor triads that you can play over a diminished h-w scale. So, I hope you find this interesting. For any questions let me know. Pdf is attached.
thanks

Hey everybody,
I'm working on some computer + vibraphone compositions and a set of pickups for the vibes. My idea is that the pickups are used for effects and processing on an iPhone and the dry vibraphone sound is either live or picked up with regular mics.
Anyway, here's a little demo of where I am at the moment!

And there's more information on my website if anybody is interested:
Here a good exemple (IMHO) of two great musicians listening to each other. Note the constant search in order to produce different sounds, with no electronical effects, close to what acoustic vibes is. Enjoy !
I'm going to put the word out to Behn, Ted, Mike and all the other guys for comping lessons. I'll also do some as well.
Let's start off with questions? You have any questions about comping??
I always tell my students that everybody should always have questions about everything in music. Even the pros. That's the sign of interest, I think. If you're interested in something you think about it and have lots of questions.
So...... Have any questions??? :-)
