Ok, just start playing around with Autumn Leaves. Just play it and find stuff. Sit at the piano. Play just the bass movement. Play the bass movement and guide tones. Check out the patterns in the melody.
Our next TOTM is Autumn Leaves. Here is one of my favorite versions. Do you know who Eva Cassidy is? Man check her out, she is pretty heavy. More of a blues singer, but wow, she gives me chills. She died very young and in her prime. I'm a huge Eva Cassidy fan and this is my most favorite versions of Autumn Leaves.
We won't use this to study, but I just figured I'd post it.
POST YOUR FAVORITE VERSIONS OF AUTUMN LEAVES IN THE COMMENTS. WE WILL BUILD A HUGE JUKE BOX OF AUTUMN LEAVES!
Check out the versions below. All the interpretations. Man!!!
this is the very first preview of our recording session from today (not even the other band members have heard it yet :) ). this is just the sound i´ll recorded today.nothing mixed yet. just volume adjusted and a small reverb on everything to get an impression. we recorded 8 songs and i will post them if they are finished. i just want to give you a sneak preview.

How important is it, as a professional vibes player, to be a great sight-reader?
I prefer working with smaller groups, trios, quartets, etc., but i'm not opposed to working with any other kinds of groups. Right now, i'm a decent sight-reader, but i definetely wouldn't feel comfortable sight-reading a dificult chart on a gig.
I'm wondering how much time I should put aside for sight-reading, when i'm practicing. thanks for any help.

Hey guys,
Started to look at this tune again. Really nice tune 3/4 tune in a minor key by Kurt Weill titled Liebeslied. Sort of plays itself with nice guide tone lines running through the changes. 32 bars, through composed.
FYI: We added some more improv articles on my website.

I'm happy to announce the release of my new Percussion CD!
It's available here:
Hey Everybody!
I just want to let you all know that the great Steve Allee is now a member. If you are not familiar with him, check out his website, and his bio. He has had an amazing career and is a local legend here in Indianapolis -another jazz luminary to join the ranks!
Welcome to the site Mr. Allee, and please let us know when/if you will be playing vibes publicly any time soon - or posting any videos hopefully.
I was working in a lesson with Nathaniel and we were working on here's that rainy day. I've been messing around with stuff we worked on and thought I'd pass it along. We were working on these sort of clusters and voicings. Here's a PDF with some of the stuff we were talking about.
This might actually be a GREAT TOTM (tune of the month).
Just banged it out. Let me know if anything is weird.
