I'm in a weird phase with sticking. I'm really messing around with combinations. If I had time (and I just might) I want to transcribe a great Gil player. Those guys have amazing independence and I think we can learn a lot from them.
But I realize that we all probably have combinations of stickings that are in our brains and don't necessarily have anything to do with the music in our head. You know what I mean? When I just listen and play exactly what I'm hearing (or as close to it as I can get), it's quite independent of sticking. But when try double stops and triple stops, etc., I have to compromise with the melody a bit.
What do you guys think? Kind of deep? or dumb? I'm just thinking about it a lot!
But the Gyil players keep coming to mind because they sort of play 2 mallets, 2 lines.
