I read with interest Tony's description of what he calls a "One Sheet" and realized that this was something I occasionally (certainly not always) do while studying a tune. I thought I'd post my version and see if others have similar variations on the "One Sheet" theme. I began doing this when I realized that, getting older, I would discover things on the vibes and then forget them by the time I came back for another practice. This was my way to organize my thoughts on a single "guide" page. Sometimes I spend more time figuring this stuff out on paper than actually practicing it....
In publicity a one sheet is a sheet that's only one page and has all your info packed on it. Then people extract whatever they need. So....
I always try to find parallels between other things. Since I'm playing chess again, I'm always thinking of the rules of chess and applying it to music. These are exercises I do when sitting around. Make associations between one thing and another.
Autumn Leaves
i took out a very old vinyl recording from 1978 by billy joel called 52nd street, which i did not losten to since 10 years or something like that. one of my favorite tracks is the tune "half a mile". after this tune comes "untill the night" i read the credits and couldn´t believe my eyes.
mr.david friedman played chimes and percussion on this tune. ok to be honest the tune david played on is the worst track on this record in my opinion (not his fault!!!!) but anyway david, did you met billy joel in person? do you remember the recording session? how was it like?
I found that on YouTube :
Whats a Jazz musician?:" one who loads 5000$ worth of gear into a 500$ car to drive 100miles to a 50$ gig !!! "
So true ! (Sigh)
Just thought I'd mention goals again! They work so well for me! I learn something. I play something. I have this prepared by this date. I record this on zoom on this date. I work hard to achieve those goals. I move them up on my list of priorities. I don't give myself too many. I make sure that I choose goals that challenge me and are within reach. I work hard on the goals. I pretend they are real. They sort of are real right? If you have goals and have priorities AND manage them you will get better on the vibes!
