Why Is It.....

We got a who is. Why not a 'Why Is It....' Series.

Things that are difficult and unexplainable... sort of.

At least from the perspective of the person posting.

My first 'Why Is It...' is:

Why is it so hard to play four mallets on a swing tune where the melody is in the upper octave.

I've been playing 'Long Ago and Far Away' for a while now. I'm in G and trying to voice nice chords underneath the melody which I'm playing in the upper octave.

ALSO the frickin melody starts on the root. That makes it ever tougher to voice.

There's the first why is!!!

TOTM My Romance - Blog

So the TOTM I think has proven to be a little difficult for some of you guys. Seems like a couple people are keeping up, but not more than that.

That's ok, even if this gets you to really learn the melodies or the chords, it's a good thing. I think what's important here is that you guys know that it takes work to do this, and keep all that in mind. Then just do the best you can when it comes to learning tunes.

I'm going to wrap this one up in the next lesson and then we can decide whether to pick another tune or not.

Any thoughts?

I booked a gig to get over my fear of playing in public.

Those of you who met me at the Delaware boot camp know I have a horrible time playing vibes in front of an audience. Part of that is just lack of confidence. And this is caused by not knowing what the hell I'm doing. So Ive decided to tackle this problem and start working live with vibes.

I booked a steady gig in duo for Wednesday evenings twice a month.
It will be a vibes and guitar duo.

Your help in determining how to do this without making a fool of myself would be greatly appreciated. Suggestions for tunes that are not too difficult in duo would be appreciated.
