First and foremost you have to master the Open and Closed Voicings Excercise. You should spend months on this exercise! Click on this link and scroll down to open and closed voicings: https://www.vibesworkshop.com/book/chords/marie-noëlle/050316
I'm very appreciative to mon amie Marie-Noelle on her kind words about the tunes on my MySpace page with the H-Factor, a local Philly jazz group. She pointed out to me that since previously, my page was set to private, that nobody was able to access my page to hear them. So I unblocked it. If you have time, please give a listen and tell me what you think. One tune, "That Old Devil Moon", features the great Larry McKenna on the tenor saxophone. The others members are Rob Henderson, the leader, on drums, Pete Colangelo an bass, and myself.
Lesson on Symmetrical Diminished Chord Scales
The mixolydian scale is the major scale with a flat 7. It's a very distinct sound, you've heard it all over the place.

I frequently put on tracks in itunes and practice comping. I come across sometimes, tracks with no chord player. I always forget what they are. But when I find them I have fun being the chord player and get a lot out of it.
So I thought I'd make a list of cd's with just bass or just bass and drums. I only have one to start, but I bet you guys will come up with a ton.
I'd like to organize all those tracks in itunes and just pull them up and comp.
I also will import them into a program like audacity and change the keys.
What you guys got??? You got tunes?

I can think of parts of tunes that are lydian. The opening chord of Blue in Green. Sometimes guys play Gmin, but most of the time it's Bb maj and a sharp 4. In fact the melody is an E.
Can you think of more?
