My goal for this year is to learn to play scales and modes.
At the end of my last lesson with Tony, he gave me two Bill Evans CD's to check out. One of them is Bill Evans' "Alone". Tony said that he learned to play solo vibes from this record.
As soon as a got home I checked it out. First of all, I'm a big fan of Bill Evans. (is hard not to be, right?)so I knew that whatever I was going to listen it was going to be beautiful, emotional and magical.
Hi all!
Yesterday I've been at Porgy&Bess (www.porgy.at) - the most important jazzclub here in Vienna where Bosko Petrovic Trio (vib, git , bass)played. These guys blew me away! Maybe someone of you have seen Bosko - he is 74 years old and from Croatia. He plays with two mallets - the huge ones like Milt Jackson and uses a timpani gip. Bosko has also composed many jazz tunes. The last few tunes of the gig he featured a boy of about 12 years named Vid Jamnik from Slowenia who studied with Bosko for several years and now plays like a killer.
The most obvious Valentines Day tune is "My Funny Valentine". Are there others?
I put the changes into Band-in-a-Box and had fun with "My Funny Valentine". I'll probably do another take though.
How about posting your version or another Valentines Day tune? I know you want to!

This is a solo that me and Tony came up with last week. I had to play it in 12 keys. It was fun! Hope you guys try it as well.
I didn't write the chords down. I think is a good exercise to try to figure them out by ear using the lines.
Have fun!! :)
So I spent 16 hours today, switching my basement (ahem, video studio) around. I know have a bigger space as my house is on an angle street, so one side of the house is wider than the other.
Should be totally cool for the vibe hang. Much more room.
Now I lay me down to sleep!!!! It's late.
The other day, I heard a couple tunes on our local jazz station:
An arrangement of Burt Bacharach's "This Guy's In Love".
Victor Feldman and Bobby Hutcherson played on this album. I don't know who played on this song though.

If you post something and you want me to hear it and I don't listen right away, PLEASE email me, and check in with me.
My schedule is one where I'm constantly bouncing off walls and running all over the place. It's way too much but it's what I have to do to survive. As a result I forget things, and don't check things.
Please don't think that if I don't check something out that means I don't dig it. Check in with me always!
In another thread (see "Check This Out", above), there was discussion about mallet wraps. I wanted to create a separate thread for this discussion.
Here is a site that sells mallet wrap.

Hi Philippe!
Almost the only thing I know about Wolfgang Schlüter is a record (LP) I have - it is called Houseboat released 1978 under MPS (0068.206; MPS 15.535). As far as I know this LP was never released as CD.
I briefly checked Youtube but with no result for Wolfgang Schlüter.
Here are some links to websites giving some info on WS: - sorry but all German language.
