Vince Guaraldi Tifoo's versions

Here are my two practice versions of Vince Guaraldi etude by TM.
The first one is a normal playing version, and the second one is an attempt to use the 2 hands separately.
I don't play the head entirely, I start improvising over the chords quite fast...
This is where I am today with this tune that I really enjoy playing... go ahead, tell me what you see/hear...I'm here to make pogress

that's our next vibe hang. you should play something. work up a short version of green dolphin or whatever!

what do you think. you'll have to get set on mogulus and we could try a demo run.

let me know if your'e intersted.

I Wish....

Man, I wish we could build sections on all these different vibe players. Put tons of info, links etc, about each one. we sort of do that, but i would to see a huge archive start. there's so much to learn about the lineage of the instrument.

If it wasn't for you guys I'd never know who Lynn Blessings is. Actually thanks to paps.

I always thought, yeah we're hearing some incredible guys, like Burton and Hutch and Milt, but I also bet there are a bunch of others just as good, and just didn't make the front page. Know what I mean? Who are these guys?

The Bluesette Connection

It was great to see Mike Pinto and Vibraman record Bluesette and post it. We have 3 versions of the tune now. That's pretty cool and gives us something to study, compare and grow from.

That kind of stuff is why I made the site, the chance to work stuff out, see what others are up to is really exciting and humbling for me. I also think it benefits the instrument in a BIG way.

ANNOUNCEMENT I HAVE BEEN LONGING TO MAKE. -- NOW AN UPDATE

AT LONG LAST I CAN MAKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT THAT I HAVE LONGED FOR.

In regards to my cancer situation. I have had the cryotherapy and then had complications. I have had infections and now only have one left to clear up. The additional operation I was expecting to have, has been ruled out because the medication and rest therapy is working and working well.

By February 1st, I plan to begin my regimen of restarting my practice and retraining of my vibraphone skills, hopefully including some vids. In seven months, I hope to have regained most of my abilities in playing the vibes.

"Rainbow Jimmies"

Hi all!

John Hollenbeck's newest release "Rainbow Jimmies" The Music of John Hollenbeck is a great CD! I've been listenning to it non-stop these past days!

I thought that it would be a good idea for you to check it out because besides the fact that it is full of great compositions, it features a vibes player: Matt Moran.

Please check it out at: http://cdbaby.com/cd/hollenbeckj

Me and Obama

So I was asked to play for Obama's inauguration party. Ok, cool, I'm a big Obama fan, of course I'd do it. In a second. One catch. None of the entertainment is getting paid, according to the person that wanted to hire us.

I'm still cool, I would do it. I'd feel like I was doing my part. Make sense? Still I'm kind of pissed. You mean bailout for the banks, for the auto industry for the real estate market.... but musicians play for free.

A gig story from way back when.

Tony, I liked your gig story. I have one from almost 40 years back, when I was young and foolish. Once I had just become the proud owner of a sailing boat, and thought I could sail, not drive, to a gig. The gig location didn't look too far away, on the map. I thought it was feasible if I got an early start. But never trust the sea. Through the morning there was no wind at all, and I was making no headway. All of a sudden, in the early afternoon, a storm came from out of nowhere and hit bad. Panic on board.

John Hollenbeck Residency "Big Ears"

Hi all!

Sorry I haven't been around these past...weeks! Finally today my life is back to normal!
I just finished the first session of a Residency called "Big Ears" with drummer/composer John Hollenbeck. http://bigearsphilly.com/

I had A LOT of fun anf I learned a lot of great things. We spent these last 5 days working together on a lot of skills that not only make you a better improviser but also a better musician. From rhythm excercises to spontaneous compositions, it was a week full of intense work and lots of fun!
