We had a great talk at our coffee hang last sunday. We talked about practicing.
One of the partipants Richard Schwagerl sent over some interesting docs he uses and created for teaching. Here they are. 2 docs didn't come over well, I'll add them later, but one is good and I'll post it here.

This is why Eastern cultures teach meditation

So sorry I missed the coffee hang; I had a church gig. Sounds like it was very interesting.
The stuff in this document is the exact reason why many Eastern cultures teach meditation. There is a process by which any individual can learn to better control their mind. Learning is about subject matter, no doubt, but the process of learning is also something that can be taught or enhanced.
Paying attention to something for protracted periods of time is difficult for everyone, but there are specific techniques that can improve that element. Getting in the present moment and staying there for protracted periods of time is similarly difficult, but there also exists known pathways to improving that skill. Learning those two things will make learning everything else both easier and more joyful in my experience.
The Buddhist teaching known as "The Dhyana Sutra" is an excellent starting point down these paths.
