Hi All- Having some bad troubles with the motor on my M46, hoping someone could point me in a useful direction.

I have an m46 with a motor, and it's been playing up terribly as of late. Firstly, somehow (in transit, I don't know when) the on/off switch got snapped off, so what's left is a tiny nub of the switch that I have to manipulate until the red light comes on. (And then again when something I can't even detect shifts and it goes off accidetnally.) I actually have the same problem with my m48's motor, where the switch is present, but instead of toggling, just spins in its socket, sometimes the light stays on, sometimes it's off. nightmare. I'd love to get a new switch, but it doesn't seem to be a simple radio shack item. Anyone know where I can get a parts list specifically for the motor controller? (I'm assuming the motor itself is fine.)

My OTHER problem, on my M46, is that the post that the speed knob is mounted on has somehow become loose, and if it's at the wrong angle, I lose current, or worse yet get this kind of half-current where the rotors turn unevenly, or pulse.

This made for a nightmarish recording session the last two days that I wouldn't care to repeat. I'm also looking to do some general mods to these motors so that they work a bit better, and are more like parts of an instrument and less like a controller for a model train set.

Can anyone recommend someone in the NYC area who might be able to take a look at these? Looking for an electrician, I suppose. I'd like to think, given I'm in New York, that I can handle this without having to box my motors up and send them to Chicago or Indiana.

grateful for any help-

JAmes

Hey James,

I recently took my M55 to a guy in north Jersey, in Fairfield. Here's the website. www.fallspercussion.com

It doesn't say anything about motor repairs on the site, but the guy, Ed, is a vibraphonist and can fix motors. Not sure if he would be able to fix your specific problem or not, but maybe worth inquiring. My motor was frozen, and he was able to do a rebuild on it, and it's working fine. Hope this helps.
