Just a quick note, January 4th and 5th we are having the first official Vibe Congress.

This will take place at the Malletech factory in Asbury Park and will be free. It's at the Malletech factory because Malletech has agreed to host the workshop for free.

No Sales Pitches! We're not having this at Malletech so they can sell you an instrument. We chose Malletech because it's FREE and central on the east coast. Hotels will be very cheap.

We will have Musser and Yamaha Vibes there as well!

The goal is to start getting us all together to talk about the instrument, how to promote it and anything else we can think of.

I would love to get a few pros there, a bunch of educators and students, amateurs and OF COURSE Vibesworkshop members!!!

If you are a Pro there will be limited space to put up books, mallets, cd, etc. for others to buy.

This is a free event. It's a chance for us to come together and maybe organize into something. Good things happen when people unite, so let's unite.

Who's interested in coming? I'll post more here about it soon.

Any questions? Any ideas?

I'm definitely interested. I wanted to check out a workshop over the summer, but I was travelling abroad. And now I might be on the east coast anyway to visit a friend of mine over the holidays in Boston.

I live in Montreal, only about 6 hours away, so I'll see if I can find a way down there for cheap. I went to the Leigh H. Stevens Marimba Camp a couple summers ago, and it was wicked. It's a beautiful location on the Jersey shore. I also spent a week there afterwards at the ACTUAL First World Vibes Congress. Got to meet and have workshops by Ed Smith, Stefon Harris, Joe Locke, Anders Astrand (coolest dude ever), Dick Sisto, Dave Samuels, Christos Rafalides, plus hang with all the students, which was great. I'd love to meet some more vibists, compare vibraphones in person, and just hang and see what happens.

Just wondering, how free are we talking here? As in free even to use the instruments?

As far as ideas go, perhaps we could arrange to have the vibesworkshoppers have something put together. We could all plan to work on a tune or something of that sort, and then show each other what we came up with.

Looking forward to it!

Mackenzie
