Iowa City Jazz Festival 7/3-7/5

My M55 will be appearing at the Iowa City Jazz Festival this year. I won't. I'll be backstage all nervy and excited to be among the professionals. At times like that I have the appearance of a one year old yellow labrador retriever banging my tail on some-one's bass drum without any regard for how bad my time is or how really annoying I am.

After about three minutes of tough negotiating I agreed to loan my M55 to Steve Nelson.

Lament by Ted Wolff

There have been a couple of nice ballads posted recently - Ed Saindon's performance of "Body and Soul" and Tony's great interpretation of "Come Rain or Come Shine". Well, here's another one, a version of "Lament" by J.J. Johnson. This track is from my new CD titled "Cerulean Blue".

Fuga y Misterio by Gary Burton (+sheet music!)

Since I will soon be performing the tango music of Astor Piazzolla, I thought some of you might enjoy seeing the vibraphone part for one of the pieces. FUGA Y MISTERIO is an energetic, contrapuntal piece of medium difficulty, so most players here at VW can play along with the recording if you want to give it a try. In fact, that is how I am practicing the pieces as I get ready for the concerts that are coming up.
