ETUDE ON SURROUNDINGS NOTES by JIM THE VIBES

HELLO! IN THE WORKSHOP IN HOLLAND TONY TALKED ABOUT IMPROVISATION BASED ON SURROUNDINGS NOTES. IT WAS A VERY INTERESTED LESSON ON APPROACH (DIATONIC OR CHROMATIC) THE BASIC NOTES OF A CHORD WHICH IS 1, 3, 5, 7. THIS IS MY ETUDE. I DID THIS IN 12 KEYS MAJOR AND MINOR. YOU DON'T HAVE TO LISTEN TO ALL. ALSO I WILL UPLOAD PLAY0ALONGS OF 12 KEYS IN MAJOR AND MINOR. THESE ARE USEFULL TO PLAY THIS ETUDE OR TO STUDY LINES ON BLUES ON 12 KEYS OR WHATEVER. I TOOK FRIEDMAN'S ADVICE AND FROM NOW ON I CREATE MY OWN PLAY-ALONGS. I SAW A TREMENDOUS DIFFERENCE ON MY PLAYING DOING THAT.

THANKS!

New time is 8-11pm eastern. The rebroadcast will start one hour earlier than usual (at 3pm eastern).
April show is this Sunday night (April 3 and 6) and Wednesday afternoon.

Red Norvo - Play Boy Jazz Festival - 1982

Les Blachut reminded me of Red's b-day March 31st. I searched and found this video of him from 1982. The man is not too young, but I love his relaxed playing, youth in his eyes and attitude, and visible fun on his face!

But jeez... though I see no cell, isn't that pick up sound?! If so how cool from a man who was born in 1909 to go through all those changes with a kid's smile!!

Happy Belated B-day Mr Norvo! :o)

Forum Topic: Lem Winchester, TOTM My Romance, and Joe Locke

I ran across audio of Lem Winchester Playing "My Romance" on youtube. Joe Locke said in one of the workshops a while back "If you want to understand Bird, you can start with Sonny Stitt; if you want to understand Bags, you can start with Lem Winchester." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzDEZcCtzWI Of course buy the CD if you can get it.
