Nr. 2 - Tune Of The Week - Alone Together

Hey Guys,

Tony inspired me with his crazy version of Alone Together, so I decided to take this tune as the next tune to study this week.

Remember, I'm trying to keep things going here and I hope you guys join in and record the tune. The deadline is next friday, so let's all post someting, ok?

I'm working on a play-along for you guys to record with and I hope to have it ready monday evening. In the meantime, check out the tune(hopefully by ear and not by realbook) and check out Tony's post(see check this out).

Tune of the week

In this section we will study and play a tune every week.

In some cases we will have a duet verion to record with or everybody will record a solo version or even a version with aebersold or band in a box. In fact everything is possible. As long as you study the tune and record something.

I hope this is gonna be helpful for a lot of you guys!

Transcribing Changes

Hey Guys,

I thought I'd start a little discussion/lesson on how to transcribe changes to tunes. As a drummer(or a drumming vibist..haha) I have been(and still am) always struggling with learning and transcribing changes and I thought I'd start out here with some tips on how to break it down. As Tony's shrink would say: if you have a big problem, brake it down into smaller problems and the big problem will go away.

How many tunes start with a minor 7 flat 5 chord?

Tony recently put up a dampening exercise based on the changes for Stella. Ensuing comments on his posting examined the E-7b5 chord at the beginning of the tune. Tony suggested I start a post with a challenge for us to find as many tunes that start with a minor 7 flat 5 chord as possible.

Rules: you cannot use your fake books or browse any lead sheet you may have. Just think through all the tunes you've memorized and find those that fit the description. Here are some to get you started. This is to challenge yourself to see how many tunes you know.
