Chord Voicing Tips

Just some quick tips I was thinking about with chord voicings. You know the goal is to be quick with all the voicings. So you have to practice moving around the instrument and getting familiar with the voicings. That takes a lot of work and time, but once mastered comping gets a lot more fun!

Time

If enough people sign up for this, then next Monday night I'll turn on the cams and talk about 'I Should Care'. We'll go over the harmony and I'll play it in different keys with a bass player.

Here's what you would need to do:

Learn the tune
Try and memorize the melody
Try and memorize the chords
Have a set of vibes or a keyboard nearby

Then:
I'll talk it down on monday, we'll play it and you can:

Play the bass movement
Play the melody
Play the chords

The Different Blues Scales

Yep, there are several different blues scales. They each have a unique quality. Of course they do, any grouping of notes will have a quality that's unique and different from other groups. For instance play a major scale. Now flat the 3rd. Just changing one note is going to uniquely change the sound of that scale or grouping of notes.
