While looking through old files of background material for my Ph.D. Dissertation (1976) on the New York Jazz Community, I came across the program from a 1975 concert by David & David that I attended. I remember speaking with Dave Samuels afterward since there weren't many instances of anyone playing marimba in a jazz context, which both did regularly. I don't recall speaking with David Friedman, although I might have, briefly.

I did this for my student Dan. We wanted to play very inside over the Tune Quasimodo which is a contrafact for Embraceable You.

Been vacant on the site here the last few months. Just wanted to take a minute and do a quick blog about what I've been doing in the shed the last few weeks.

This year I decided I wanted to be a stronger 2 mallet player. From the time I got on the vibes in college after playing marimba for a year or two I pretty quickly committed to 4 mallets, all the time. The whole approach from the Burton school, comping, dampening, etc.
I love it!
