Here is the final independence exercise. This one deals with a little mallet independence of breaking up and arpeggiating chords. This one is great for learning how the break up voicings and use guide tone leading lines in between melody notes. Good luck!
A PDF is attached.
Write in what the chords are supposed to be, then maybe with a different color pencil write in what they look like.
If you're interested let me know. The price will be incredible. Only inquire if you're very serious about it.
I want to get this in the hands of a player.
This etude deals with more block chords, along with dampening within this independence exercise. You should start to notice how all the techniques we've discussed are starting to come together.
Gary Burton's Jazz Improvisation Course
Over the past five weeks, I've been enrolled in Gary Burton's online jazz improvisation course at https://www.coursera.org/. Coursera is a website that offers free online courses in a variety of subjects. I really enjoyed the course and was able to relate a lot of the assignments to lessons here on VWS, so I asked Tony if I could put up a review. Enjoy!

This tune, titled "The Summer Knows" was written by Michele LeGrande and featured in the movie "Summer of '42" way back in the 1970s. It's a lovely ballad with a beautiful melody and a great lyric.
A pdf of the arrangement is attached.
