RIP Terry Breese

I want to acknowledge the life of a teacher and friend who passed away suddenly at the age of 61 last week Saturday May 8, 2010.

I started takeing drum lessons from Terry when I was 7 yrs. old. I continued with him until I was 15 yrs old and had a friendship with him through out my life. Terry was an excellent teacher, always encouraging, supportive and gave me a good reality check a couple of times when I needed it. He was never demeaning, just a regular guy, and a very nice and caring one at that.

So what has TJ been up to...

Hey Guys,

As I've been away most of the time lately I thought I'd give an update on what I'm busy with, and that's the reason that I'm not online much.

So I had two really great gigs last couple of weeks. One was with a trio(vb-bs-git). A great bass anf guitar player from amsterdam. We had a real nice gig and I did record some stuff. But it needs some editing, so I'll post that when I have time.

Go practice!!!

Guys,

As you know Tony is out for the week end... But it doesn't mean it's holidays!

So what are you doing here reading this stupid message: go and check all the lessons, posts, vids, audios, get back to your mallets and go practice!!

The boss will be back soon, expecting tons of posts and comments around!! And by the way, I'm watching over you!! So mind your steps!!

;o)

- Marie

Estate by Barryk

My folks heard "Estate" on the radio and thought that I would like to learn it.
I never heard this tune before.

Found this lead sheet:

After I recorded this I found that it is in The Real Book Volume II. The chords are slightly different than what I played.

I decided to keep it simple, with octave melody, and not too much comping since there is already background.

Ed Saindon New Website and Update

Vibist Jon Letsky has done a great job in updating my website. Some of the features now include a Recent News section, Recordings section (including the entire concert with Dave Liebman in which the downloads are free) and a Video section which includes all of my YouTube videos. Here's the link in case anyone wants to check it out: http://www.edsaindon.com/Default.aspx

Other Miscellaneous Updates:

Four Note Groupings, Part Two

Hello Everyone, here's Part Two of the Four Note Groupings article which will be appearing in the upcoming June issue of the Percussive Arts Society magazine Percussive Notes. This article addresses the use of four note groupings on Dom 7 chords as well as the application of the four note grouping concept on two choruses of Stella by Starlight. Thanks to Gustavo for putting the music examples into Finale.
