This video is incredible I think in many ways, huh?
As a novice, rock / blues rhythm guitarist (who has always loved, and wished he could play jazz), I was searching around on YouTube, looking for 'Vince Guaraldi' in an attempt to play along with 'Christmas Time Is Here', my absolute favorite Holiday number.
I come across this mind numbing performance by this rockin' roll looking guy, who is really tearing it up, kicking it hard .. Playing all parts himself, including this awesome ongoing solo that rings right out. Truly rocking right out ... all on ... a Vibraphone!?!?! Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai all rolled into one.
This is great stuff to study. And we're taking it slow, so practice in all the keys. I think these lessons will help many of you guys!
This was an out take I did from the Chord and Harmony Festival. Just thought I'd post it.
Still the same concert we did in quartet with french musicians Éric Barret on saxs, Stéphane Kerecki on bass and canadian drummer Karl Jannuska. This tune is extracted from "Carmen" the opera by G. Bizet.

Sleigh Ride with John Hill on guitar, and me on MaliletKat is getting there. Missing an Fmajor chord at the end. Hoping to move on to some jazz standards with John. Definitely great to work with a guitar player.
My final this year in improv class is simple. Students will play Have You Met Miss Jones in 4 keys. Head, Solo, Head. Sounds like it could be simple. But for them it proves to be very difficult.
They have to play in time, and they play solo and they have to make the changes. Those three things in combination are apparently difficult. Well no apparently. Those are difficult things to pull off. Keeping everything in time, and making your line sound like the tune and doing it all yourself with no help.
