Unison (Bjork) by James Shipp & Nós Novo

*I just noticed that you could submit performances for members, so I wanted to put this out there again.*

This is a video I recently made of my band, Nós Novo, playing one of my favorite Bjork tunes. Though the band was founded with a view to playing and playing with Celtic musics from our perspective as jazz musicians, we also do the occasional song that I just really enjoy playing and feel suits the group... to my ears there's a lot of connection to Irish music in this performance, but if it doesn't strike you that way, I hope you enjoy it for what it is. Almost 1 Year Old

August 1st vibes workshop will be 1 year old. It's been a very hard and fun year. I've mad so many friends from all over the world and we have this instrument in common. That's totally cool.

The site is slowly growing and things are starting to happen. I think next year will be an even better year. It's great that many of you are willing to support the site as you do. I think we're going to build something great.

Top Secret

Hey everyone... it's been a while since I've been on the site. Trying to get back into the swing of things here and to catch up on all the stuff of missed.

This isn't a vibes video, but it is a great video of a bunch of extremely talented guys out of Basil, Switzerland. These are GREAT drummers... check them out!

Tap Dancer Maurice Chestnut: 100 % percussion geek! :o)

When Gary told us about his childhood, we had a little talk about tap dancing.

Having a look on Joe Locke's agenda, I saw that he will be performing at Jazz Baltica (Germany) in July, with young tap dancer Maurice Chestnut and a few other percussionists. The title of the performance is : "Percussion Discussion".

Whao!! I'd love to be a little mouse and attend!… But who knows, maybe there will be some video on Youtube…

Opening Licks

I'm fasinated by lines so today I studied opening licks. I put them down in a Finale doc and thought I'd post them.

I sat and listened to them until I could pretty much play them, then I went over to the hunk of metal and tried to slowly play the lick without messing up. Then I sped it up and put it through all the keys.

You guys should try it. Licks are attached.
