Musser model 25

I am restoring a Musser model 25.
Does anyone have any information on one of these?
I am guessing it was made in the late 50's to early 60's, and looks like an early version of an M44.
Specifically, I am looking information as to what type of belt was used as there is no way to install the belt without splitting it.

Hi-If you send me your email address, I will send you some pictures of some Musser 25s that I have from old catalogs and the a couple of photos from internet. You can find the same catalogs on the Drum Archive site. Look in the Ludwig 1963 or 1964 catalogs. I don't think it will solve your belt problem, but the instrument must come apart in some fashion. You should be able to measure the belt dimensions using string and then go to an industrial supply store that can sell or make you an O-ring that should do the trick. That's what I thought also, but I removed the screws that are exposed and it does not budge. I'm afraid of damaging it. I can't see any other way they could have put a conventional belt on other than when they assembled the frame. Doesn't make sense, that's why I thought a split belt. But anything is possible in an early design. (See photo 548a above)

This model uses a close-wound spring with the ends joined in place of a belt.

Well, that might explain the scratched up surface.

Here is something you might try. It is a custom sized belt.
Go to this site and search for 'rounthane'.

I bought it at one time but never needed to use it, so I don't know if will work or not.
Part # 'A 6R 1-A06' is the smallest thickness, which is slightly thicker than the belt I use on my Deagan. You join the ends with part # 'A 6A 1-C06'.
