I'd love to hear what other people do when they rehearse their bands. I'd especially like to hear about rehearsals with Frank Zappa (if anyone at VW has any experience with that). I heard he rehearsed a lot. I'd also like to hear about…
Hi Guys.
I'm playing this Haydn Divertimento for a technical exam at uni. I want to see what people think about how to do this trill, as 3 mallets are already taken up with the chord played at the same time....All help is appreciated!!!!!…
EVERYTHING this man (tony) does is top notch. Every time he plays the vibes, great music happens. So, why the hell isn't Tony written about in ALL the magazines, booked with top paying gigs and so busy performing that he'd have to hire out…
Man in general tries to break complex concepts into smaller bite size pieces.
Because of time the results and impact of the proposed breakdown is often not apparent.
I think how we have broken down the chromatic scale causes the learning…
Here's a long lesson discussing the harmony to the tune "My Romance".
Remember small chunks. I think if you do this lesson as I say, you will learn a ton. It will take a long time for some, but this tune is a masterpiece to study for jazz…
"only after you’ve learned 1,000 tunes do you realize that there are really only about 20 song forms and every tune is a combination of segments of these 20 forms"... I read somewhere on Hal Galper's website.

In this section we will study and play a tune every week.
In some cases we will have a duet verion to record with or everybody will record a solo version or even a version with aebersold or band in a box. In fact everything is possible. As…
This beautiful ballad, written by Johnny Mandell and played so often by Bill Evans, makes a wonderful vehicle for explorative melodic playing. For me, the goal here is sound and simplicity.
Here's another tune from my 5-March gig -- "Black Orpheus". Me on vibes, Doug Sondak on flute, Richard Hale-Shaw on bass and Ed Conley on drums. Enjoy :-).

Sorry for the bad video quality. I used My computer and some mics to record it. Sound came out great but the video sucks. I guess you can treat this like an audio file. Check out some of the videos I've uploaded though!
