Great interview with Mike Mainieri. I'm probably the only person who hasn't seen it already but I thought it was excellent.
I saw Tony's email on Friday with a link to the music for this, so I decided to take a look at it last night. And shot this video this morning.
There's at least one wrong note, so I haven't earned the "free" skype lesson, yet...assuming no one else has posted this. Has someone? :)
It obviously helped a ton to write in the chord symbols (pic attached). Took it slowly to make sure I am learning it. Challenging!
Thanks for the inspiration, Tony. I have so much work to do. Onward!
National Science Foundation contacted me at the fire house in McMurdo Station and asked if I would put something together for International Jazz Day from Antarctica. This was at the end of my shift on 4/25. They said they needed two-and-a-half minutes of recorded music by the afternoon of 4/26. I got off work the morning of 4/26, went straight to the Chapel Of The Snows (where I keep my vibraphone and practice), got four volunteers from the firehouse to hold camera phones while I played.
I posted #4 awhile back - continuing to work through the book. Constructive feedback is always welcome!
PDF of chord melody is attached.

Here’s the Days of Wine and Roses chord melody.
I’ll give my new solo cd to the first 2 people who do the following.
1. Play my chord melody
2. Take a solo
3. Play my chord melody or your melody for the head out
The deadline is February first 2019
You have to have good time, keep the time. I don’t care how simple the solo is! Just play it well
I will get video of Audio and play through and talk about some of these.
PDF is attached.
As a fun incentive, you guys have one week (from the date of this post) to post your versions of this chord melody. I will pick a winner, probably with an online random generator.
The winner wins one pair of my new sticks. They will be out within the next week or so.
YOU HAVE TO WRITE THE CHORDS IN. Study this a bit, make sure you know what the alterations or of what I've written here.
Look to see when I have a root or when I don't.
Post any questions.
