update on whats going on in my life....

Hey Guys,

I've been feeling bad that I'm not around much, especially since there is soo much stuff going up, my recent activity page has a few pages of all new stuff I wanna check out, so I'll try to do that now and then.

Man, Dana, you're really putting stuff up, I love that you're contributing so much. Great stuff. And I love the way this site is evolving. More and more students putting stuff up and putting themselves in the open.

Bealach an Doirin by James Shipp's 'Nós Novo'

Hi Folks- Since I'm advertising my gig with this band on Feb 27th, I just wanted to put a little sample of the music up. I've posted a few of our more cryptically Celtic arrangements in the past, so I wanted to share this one, which is a little more straight-up-and-down... it's a reel called Bealach an Doirin that I learned from a Chieftains record. This performance (excuse the talking and general roughness) is from the 55 Bar in NYC last September.

James Shipp's Nós Novo appearing at Cornelia Street Cafe NYC 2-27

Time

Hi Vibesworkshop--

Just wanted to put it out there that my quartet is playing at Cornelia Street Cafe (http://www.corneliastreetcafe.com) on Friday, Feb 27th at 9pm and 10:30. We'll be playing our unique mixture of Irish jigs, reels, and songs with Brazilian rhythms and jazz sensibilities, as well as some great ones by Monk, Bjork, and myself which incorporate traditional Irish feels and timbres in exciting and questionable ways. (This may sound a bit out there, but I think it actually makes for a fun and balanced night of music that most anyone who wants to can enjoy.)

Humph 2? by Monkadelphia - Don't Tell Band I Posted This

We started recording our new Monkadelphia CD the other night. At least I think we'll make a cd. We wanted to go into the studio and record and see what happened. We did one rehearsal, hadn't played together for about 2 years. I dig it.

I'll sneak in a track here. All rough mixes. The studio is called Forge and my buddy Victor Baker is going to Engineer the late shift and do affordable sessions for musicians in the area.

The tune is the Monk tune Humph. It's rhythm changes but the A section chords are

2 beats each ->F#7 B7 E7 A7 D7 G7 C7 F7 then Bb for the rest.
