My student Pablo was asking about writing a piece with one not as the melody.
So I recommended he write down a bunch of chords with B (his note for the melody, trying to use chords with B as an upper partial as well as a third or fifth.
I figured I'd quickly try and bang out my own version. So here it is. gave myself a couple tries and about 10 minutes.
After two years of retirement, Terry Gibbs performed with a new version of his Dream Band in May, 2016 and shows that he hasn't lost a step despite being 91 years old at the time. He swings through a Steve Allen composition, "Playing the Field", followed by a favorite, "What's New", where his solo is a master class in playing a ballad.
For those interested, Anthony Smith's excellent book, Masters of the Vibes, devotes an important chapter to Terry, who recounts the many trials and tribulations of a jazz master through many decades of playing.
Hey Everyone,

The video does not show the "best vibraphone ever", but it presents a collection of design ideas for vibraphone frames realized as a prototype. Not all ideas are mine.
I wanted to design a "different" framework, which can be packed into a single suitcase, especially for air travel.
At the same time, I did not want to compromise on the sound quality. I wanted to eliminate known disadvantages of the typical table frames (pedal sounds, structural sound from bar to frame, rattling of resonant tubes, ...).
Solo vibe feature from my concert at the Theatre de la Licorne in Cannes, France which took place on October 8th, 2017. Special thanks to Andres Ramos (Professor and Head of Percussion - Cannes Conservatoire), Bergerault, Vic Firth, the city of Cannes and town of Mougins for sponsoring the clinic and concert presentation.
