Working on some four mallet techniques while playing the classic Besame Mucho...
Hey guys,
this week its monks reflections. i put in the key of Bb.
this is kind of the first monk tune i really practiced. its so damn hard to speak in this "monk language" when you never did it before. i listend to the solo piano records and the trio records of monk and his time and the harmonical language is soo amazing.
so, mine is not, thats why i'm not so happy with this record. i definetly have to work more on this.
how did you practice monk tunes? what helped you? any suggestions for other monk tunes to practice?

Hi All,
December is coming up fast and so is the next Good Vibes. I'm happy to introduce Kevin Hart to listeners of the show. He's the first on the playlist with a fabulous arrangement of the Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays tune, "Here to Stay." It's a live recording but not yet released on CD. Kevin, if you are reading this, please remedy that soon!
Berklee Improv Class - Applying the improvisational concept of Four Note Groupings over John Coltrane's Giant Steps. In my 39th year of teaching and it continues to be a pleasure teaching these talented and motivated musicians. I feel fortunate to be able to pass on the information as well as learn and grow along with the students.
I recently had to change the felt damper strip on my M55. Over the years it had packed down pretty hard, making it less effective and even causing buzzing sounds when it made contact with some of the bars.
Something from the laboratory...see what u think!
