Hey everyone...
I have decided to part ways with my Yamaha YV-2700 vibraphone. Not the easiest decision, but I would rather see it enter a loving home than sit in storage indefinitely. I am having to SERIOUSLY pare down belongings in trying to make a permanent move from Houston to New York City in the next 12-18 months.
The vibraphone is a strange instrument. Part doorbell, part piano, part percussion, with ornamental parts that don’t really do much and an electric motor to boot.

Still practicing my soloing. Working on lines. I love lines. I wish i could play lines like these heavy cats i admire on the site ( Tony, Dave, Ed, Behn, Rusty ... ). Working on.
Working on simplicity and clearity. Phrasing, tempo, harmo.
Soloing is often to much confuse. Keep the things clear man ! I always says that to me !
It's a work in progress.
I love doing that.

hi dear gary,I would like to know how do you feel with the past of the time with the rattan thicknes of your mallets?
early video are a thin rattan and was very flexible . looks like more easy to play? more flexibility in your phrasing? for example this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3vyvl4yf1I
I have a older set with this rattan and the feeling it is some diferent
but in a duo context if you play loud and with enegy I fell confortable
or you live in tokio with chick?
I just picked up an old Deagan model 30; the budget vibes that they made in the late-1930s/early-'40s. It has 2-1/2 octaves, cardboard resonator tubes and a single-speed motor. It needs a bit of work, but I'm not too intimidated by it. However, I could use some advice! Here's what I know needs to be done:
1. Unstring the bars and polish them; they're pretty tarnished. I have a motorized buffing wheel with a variety of mops and rouges, but I could use advice about what specifically might work best.
