2012 - Vid Jamnik & family at Marie's home

|
Surprise! Vid Jamnik was in France with his parents & brother, and they had the kindness to come up to my home for short meeting! They met Florian and Bruno, Vid tried my vibes (what a great moment!) and we took that picture before they left... For the record, I 'knew' Vid's father from the former site thevibe.net but never had the chance to meet him in person: short but best vibes!! :o)

Bocals and Yarn

Once upon a time on a hot July day, Carolyn and her bassoon-friend Kelly decided to hang out. After spending a great day on the town, they went back to Carolyn's apartment so Kelly could pick up her bassoon and head out...but instead Carolyn wound up giving Kelly her first-ever jazz lesson and they started jamming. The result: Bocals and Yarn, a bassoon and vibes jazz duo getting ready to hit the streets next Saturday. Look out world, two rarer instruments of the jazz kingdom have struck a chord!

Everything Happens To Me by Arturo Serra's Quartet

Arturo is one our members, an a serious vibist from Spain... But Arturo is too shy to post his music here!! Man what a loss for us if he wouldn't! So I decided to give him a hand. ;-) And it's Ed Saindon who helped me find the right tune as he talked about this video on a recent post. I leave you and let you enjoy this beautiful version of the tune, the great lines and feel that comes out of it...

Limerick Jazz Festival Launch

This is one of the pics that we used for the Jazz Festival launch, it made all the papers. it's me and my grandson Jack who is 5. Check out Jack's tee shirt. It was taken at a skate park lying on our backs.Love the graffiti background The soprano is heavy and I was amazed Jack held it up for so long while the pic was being taken. It cost me a visit to the toy shop afterwards. Marie especially for you.

vibes on the beach

best of both worlds! in response to your email, tony!

This picture was taken at the Bodega head beach in Bodega Bay, CA. I love comin out to a beach cliff spot and setting up, playing for an hour or two. People pull over and watch, ive attracted a little mini crowd or two a few times. its a pretty uncommon thing to see- and i get good response, beautiful energy. Someone even reccomended making an event out of it, and doing like a barbeque by the beach with vibes music lol. never got around to it, but it would be cool.

Tom Harrell discusses the healing power of music

This is heavy stuff. If you don't know, Tom Harrell is schizophrenic. And as you can tell, it is to a serious debilitating degree. For him to overcome that and alcoholism, and continue to make music at the level he does is nothing short of incredible. This interview shows an incredibly deep and introspective side of a man who has suffered a lot. Even as a schizophrenic, I find the problems he describes going through resonated heavily with me because of my own experiences, and I'm sure many people feel the same way. Tom Harrell is one heavy guy.
