Yellow Springs - Bach Flute by Tony Miceli & Diane Monroe
So I approached this Bach just like it was a tune. Besides all those guys back in the day could improvise, and they probably approached this the same way.

For better or worse, I went a little nuts on this tune. I'm listening back and realizing I put everything including the kitchen sink in there (That's a Gavan quote!! :-) ). So I figured I'd post it. It's not perfect, but there's a lot of vibes comping with no bass, so I thought it might be of interest.
Ok, so here's an epic Bluesette lesson. Just grab something and work with it. Post your results in a couple keys at least. Guys play Bluesette in Bb and G usually.
Check out all the accompanied 'Check This Out Stuff'. Listen to the audio of vibes, guitar and EVI and listen to the comping.

Man I love this picture!
I got it on Mike Balter's FB... The legend Mike wrote: "Mr. Percussion of Hollywood, Emil Richards trying out the new Joe Locke 46R Mallets."
Mike? Did you take it? Jeez this photo is soooo cute!! Thanks!!

Here is quite a different Soul Sauce. This piece is an original by Staboola McPet. A video was first introduced to the site over a couple of years ago but was probably lost in the site transitions that have taken place. Since there are so many new members, it deserves to be heard again.
Enjoy

Hi Everyone,
Hope you are all well!
I will be making it over the New York for my 3rd year in a row and this time a former teacher of mine whom is undergoing a doctorate at Manhattan School has requested we do a recording whilst I'm over.
"Dr. Jackle" from Miles Davis - Quintet/Sextet
Transcription of Milt Jackson's solo
I love this solo. I transcribed it ages ago and got a lot out of it. Finally put it in Finale for you guys. Enjoy!!!!
I'm totally digging the TOTM. I feel like we're all studying together. That's the difference. You can find anything on youtube, but this is turning out to be a sort of school isn't it? Everybody working and learning together. Talking about stuff. It's kind of like a collective unconcious or some sort of Yungean thing. There's a bunch of us going around thinking about Bluesette during the day and digesting it all. Now that's cool and fun. Hey?
I just had a great chat with Marco Bianchi, an Italian vibist who is member here, even if seldom online.
He told me he was preparing a new album with music in the Zappa style. He's also working on a TV show with 2 friends. They make little sketches... and sometime record humorisitic tunes. I made a little search and here is the tune I felt like sharing with you. Marco plays mallets, drum and keyboard.
Maybe this song will be a bit long for some of you. So I selected a few "spots":
- 0'00: great vibes part, funny images!
- 2'39: just watch, it's "fresh"! ;-)
- 5'23: I love it!
The Jason Marsalis posting touched on this and brought me back to thinking about it; I have been working on this addition to the Theory section of my website for a few months, trying to get my head around it... typically for me, it's too long and not completely clear yet. But, I thought I would put it out here for comment to see if I can clean it up a bit..
The prior part it refers to is both posted here on VW in its original form and in its new, improved form (Thanks to all who commented) on my site. http://www.randysutin.com/subpage.html
Aesthetics geeks enjoy!!
