Pat Metheny - Incredible Interview With Pat Metheny
A must watch, IMHO.
A must watch, IMHO.
Why is the vibraphone so dang cool?
It's right there. From striking of the bar to innervating the ear drum of the listener – it is organically right there with nothing between the artist and the listener.
Many people have often said that the vibraphone is limited by what it can do but I think the simple requirements to control the vibrating aluminum bar IS what makes it so pure and beautiful to the listener. It is that simple perfection that makes it so beautiful. Heck, you could say the same about The Beatles.
Ok, maybe not EVERY tune. But a lot of them!
I've been a little AFK for the past few weeks since I'm in the middle of moving and have been busy, but I thought I'd share a little project of mine that is nearing (ever so slowly) completion, which may be helpful to others as well!

this is a cd I did with Jimmy Bruno a while ago.
It's up here for 7 days from the date of this post.
Like most people, I imagine, I have been working a lot on my solo vibraphone playing. I also finally got some decent recording equipment. This is my first attempt to test it out and hone my arrangements of these two great tunes. Feedback on both my playing and audio appreciated.
Here is my run through on Chi Chi. I could probably keep practicing this for the rest of my life, but thought I'd give a progress report and keep moving.

Thanks to David Patrois. One of his students told me he does this.
I have played 12 tone rows before but never like this. Making one up, and playing in all the keys.
Very cool lifetime exercise!
here is my 12 tone row:
F C G# B G F# D Bb C# E Eb A
i just made it in some quasi random way in Sibelius.
