Let's wrap up rhythm changes this week. Yeah??? I've worked so hard on them the last couple months.
Maybe we just move into the world of bebop and see where that takes us, via etudes and whatever else.
I just have to tell you guys. I have so much fun with a metronome. I know there are guys that don't think they are cool, but I love working with a metronome. It helps me so much to learn about time!
I just put it on 2 and 4 and play. I can feel my time waver a bit and I can see it's tendencies. I learn so much. Man, try learning a bebop head and then putting the metronome on 2 and 4. See where the accents are, the off beat phrases, etc. Try it out and let me know what you think!
I dig it!
I played a GREAT concert with David Friedman at 'The Mallet Institute' in Dusseldorf, Germany! Video is on the way!
There's a great new school in Dusseldorf, Germany called the Mallet Institute. It looks like it's going to be a great school!
I played a concert with David Friedman and florian Poser. Here's a photo from the concert. I think video and audio is on it's way.
This is not vibes but I think it's a great musical lesson: I discovered this tune today, after listening to a recent interview of Joe Locke where he speaks about it. I heard the Julie London & Shirley Horn versions with lyrics, the Miles/Evans' instrumental. But man when I hear this version I remain speachless: I've never been a great saxophone fan, but to me Michael Brecker here can make the words speak deeper than the lyrics themself... Wow... Enjoy

I discovered this video thanks to Christos Rafalides. I always loved this piece written by Joe Locke, but had never heard it by anyone else but him, and never as a solo piece! It gives it another dimension! Congrats to the performer, Dan!
