Lament by BarryK

I was playing the piano and wanted to randomly choose a tune out of the RealBook, and opened to Lament by J. J. Johnson. I think it is a beautiful ballad. Here is my attempt of an arrangement for vibes. I tried to get the fullness I was getting on the piano, but it is tough on (my) vibes. Maybe at some point, I will record piano, and play vibes on top of it. I found that Ted posted a piano/vibes duet of Lament (see Check This Out, above). How Insensitive - Ed Saindon & Billy Novick

Here's another clip from the Sunday brunch gig. I've had many conversations with other players about playing these types of gigs. For me, I really enjoy playing these kinds of gigs where the music is more background as opposed to a concert situation. If we can play the music we want and no one bothers us, I'm happy. I also think that sometimes the music played at these gigs can be better. Hey guys, here's a clip of a recent Sunday brunch gig with clarinetist Billy Novick. We've had the gig a long time and I always look forward to making the drive into Boston on a Sunday morning to play. For many years, I played with the great Herb Pomeroy on trumpet. For me, duo playing is my favorite kind of playing. It allows for so much clarity, spontaneity and interaction.
